After 30 years in a courtyard atelier near Place de la Bastille, the atelier is expanding and moving to the foot of Saint-Ambroise church.
The atelier specialises in oil paintings on every support: canvas, wood panel or copper.
Each work is received individually, studied with care and treated with respect for its history, materials and integrity.
The atelier brings together a stable and experienced team of four long-standing colleagues around Catherine Polnecq. Projects are conducted collectively, with the proposed protocol considered together before any intervention.
Over the years, the atelier has developed broad expertise to address the full range of issues involved in painting conservation and restoration, for institutional and private collections as well as art-market professionals.
The atelier also works with highly qualified specialist conservators, notably for structural interventions on canvas and panel supports, who also work for museum collections.
Every intervention begins with an in-depth condition assessment. This essential stage evaluates the work’s structure, materials, alterations and history.
When relevant, the atelier uses scientific-imaging tools—high-definition infrared, ultraviolet, X-radiography or pigment analysis—to understand the construction of the painting, possible transformations and state of conservation. These analyses are undertaken only when justified by the work or requested by the client.
This approach establishes a precise, reasoned protocol adapted to each case. Restoration is always considered a measured and reversible act, in keeping with the ethical principles of the profession.
Each artwork therefore receives individual attention before a documented quotation is prepared.
The atelier is equipped with an alarm connected to a remote monitoring service.
Works are cared for in a controlled and secure environment with appropriate conditions for handling, storage and treatment.
The atelier receives visitors by appointment only, ensuring individual attention and dedicated time for each project. Paintings are monitored carefully throughout their time at the atelier.
